Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our cabins and services.

    Booking & Pricing

You can book a cabin directly through our website using the booking form, or via Nettimökki and Airbnb. Choose your cabin, check availability in the calendar, select your dates, and send a booking request. We will confirm the reservation and send you payment details. Direct bookings through pesaavailla.fi often offer the best price.

The booking fee is 20% of the total rent, payable immediately upon booking. The remaining 80% is due no later than 30 days before the start of your stay. If the booking is made less than 30 days before arrival, the full rent is payable at once.

The booking fee (20%) is non-refundable under any circumstances. If you cancel more than 30 days before the stay, no further payment is required. If you cancel less than 30 days before arrival or fail to show up, the full rent is charged. The remaining payment is refunded only if we manage to re-rent the cabin for the same period, minus an administrative fee of €250 + VAT and any difference in rental price.

Prices vary depending on the season, cabin, and length of stay. During high season (Christmas, New Year, ski holiday weeks 8–15), prices are higher; a full week (Sat–Sat) is often the best value, and shorter spring-season stays are also available. Christmas and New Year are booked as weekly stays. The minimum stay is usually 3 nights. Check our booking form for current prices and availability, or contact us for a personalised quote.

The price includes use of the cabin, electricity, water, heating, WiFi (except Metsonpesä), firewood for the fireplace, and basic cleaning supplies. Bed linen (sheets, towels) and final cleaning are available for an extra fee, unless the booking is made through Airbnb — in which case cleaning is included. Additional services like bed linen can be selected when booking.

    Cabins & Amenities

We have four unique log cabins in Finnish Lapland:

    • Otsonpesä — Levi (Sirkka, Kittilä), 8–12 guests
    • Riekonpesä — Ylläsjärvi (Ylläs), 6–8 guests
    • Naalinpesä — Äkäslompolo (Ylläs), 6–10 guests
    • Metsonpesä — Muonio, a wilderness cabin for 2–6 guests

Each cabin offers its own unique Lapland experience.

Yes, every cabin has a sauna! Otsonpesä, Riekonpesä, and Naalinpesä have electric saunas. Metsonpesä features a traditional hand-hewn wood-burning sauna on the riverbank — an authentic wilderness sauna experience.

Otsonpesä (Levi) has an outdoor hot tub — filling, heating, draining, and cleaning are the guest's responsibility (instructions are provided at the cabin). Naalinpesä (Äkäslompolo) has an outdoor jacuzzi. Please note that a €100 surcharge applies for deliberate contamination of the jacuzzi water (e.g. eating/drinking in the tub, sunscreen).

Otsonpesä has fast WiFi, a work desk, and even a printer — perfect for remote work. Riekonpesä has ultrafast fibre broadband. Naalinpesä has fast WiFi. Metsonpesä is a wilderness cabin with no electricity or internet — a complete digital detox.

Metsonpesä is an authentic wilderness cabin in the Muonio backcountry — 50 hectares of private land surrounded by state-owned wilderness. The cabin has a wood stove with a cooking plate, a hand-hewn log sauna, a traditional wooden table, a daybed, and an outhouse. There is no electricity or running water — drinking water comes from the river beside the cabin. In summer, you can reach it by a rough road suitable for off-road vehicles; in winter, by skiing approximately 1 km from the snowmobile trail. This is the place for those who want to experience true Lapland silence on nature's terms.

Yes! Otsonpesä, Riekonpesä, and Naalinpesä all have a drying cabinet — excellent for drying outdoor gear, ski clothes, and wet garments. Otsonpesä also has a tumble dryer.

Otsonpesä, Riekonpesä, and Naalinpesä offer electric vehicle charging. At Naalinpesä, charging is available from a heavy-duty power outlet using your own cable. Charging is included in the price at no extra cost. EV charging is not available at Metsonpesä.

    Pets & Families

Yes, dogs are welcome in all our cabins! Otsonpesä also has two fenced dog yards with heated dog kennels — dogs are welcome indoors too. We ask that you keep the cabin tidy and mention pets when making your booking.

Yes! Otsonpesä, Riekonpesä, and Naalinpesä have a travel cot (crib), high chair, potty, baby bath, and baby gate available. Board games and card games are also available for the whole family. Children love sledging, nature walks, and playing in the snow during a cabin holiday.

    Check-in & Check-out

Check-in time is 4:00 PM and check-out time is 11:00 AM, unless otherwise stated in the booking confirmation. If you need flexibility with timing, please contact us and we'll see what we can arrange.

We use self check-in via a key lockbox. You will receive detailed instructions about the lockbox location and code after your booking is confirmed. The cabin will be warm and ready for your arrival. Inside, you'll find a guest information folder with local maps, activity recommendations, and all necessary instructions.

The nearest airport is Kittilä (KTT), with direct flights from Helsinki. Distances from Kittilä Airport:

    • Otsonpesä (Levi): approx. 16 km
    • Riekonpesä (Ylläsjärvi): approx. 38 km
    • Naalinpesä (Äkäslompolo): approx. 52 km
    • Metsonpesä (Muonio): approx. 80 km

Airport shuttle buses and car rentals are available. A rental car is the recommended way to get around Lapland, especially if you want to explore the region. Kolari railway station is an option for train travellers (e.g. Riekonpesä 36 km, Naalinpesä 38 km, Otsonpesä 86 km).

    Activities & Seasons

Lapland offers experiences all year round! In winter, you can cross-country ski, downhill ski, snowshoe, ride snowmobiles, try a husky safari or reindeer sleigh ride, and admire the Northern Lights. In spring, the frozen crust carries your weight and the sun warms — the best time for skiing! In summer, hiking, fishing, cycling, canoeing, and the midnight sun await. In autumn, the ruska (fall foliage) season offers unforgettable hiking and berry picking. We're happy to recommend local activity providers when you book.

The Northern Lights can typically be seen in Lapland from September to March, when nights are dark enough and the sky is clear. The best chances are during the polar night season (December–January), when darkness prevails for most of the day. Our cabins are located far from city lights, providing excellent conditions for viewing the Aurora — often right from the cabin yard!

Absolutely! Summer in Lapland is magical. The midnight sun shines nearly 24 hours a day in June–July, giving you endless time for hiking, fishing, and enjoying nature. Summer prices are often more affordable than the winter season. Otsonpesä is by Lake Levijärvi, Riekonpesä and Naalinpesä offer access to fell terrain, and Metsonpesä is easiest to reach in summer.

Otsonpesä (Levi): about 2.5 km to the slopes, 400 m to cross-country trails, 2.5 km to the shop. Riekonpesä (Ylläsjärvi): about 2 km to the slopes, 200 m to trails. Naalinpesä (Äkäslompolo): about 200 m to trails, 8 km to the slopes, 2 km to the shop. Metsonpesä is in the wilderness, far from any slopes — a paradise for nature travellers.

    Practical Matters

Bed linen (sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, towels) is available for an extra fee — you can add them when booking. You're also welcome to bring your own. For Airbnb bookings, final cleaning is included in the price, but bed linen remains an add-on service.

Final cleaning is an optional paid service that you can add when booking. If you don't order final cleaning, you are expected to clean the cabin before departure. For bookings made through Airbnb, final cleaning is included in the price.

Every cabin (except Metsonpesä) has spacious parking with an engine block heater outlet. Naalinpesä also has a carport. There is no strict limit on the number of cars, but typically 2–3 cars fit comfortably. Otsonpesä, Riekonpesä, and Naalinpesä also offer EV charging.

Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors in all our cabins. Smoking is permitted outdoors in designated areas. Please dispose of cigarette butts properly.

Every cabin has waste bins and recycling instructions. Please sort your waste according to the instructions — bio, plastic, glass, metal, paper, and mixed waste. The nearest waste collection points are listed in the guest information folder. In Lapland, keeping nature pristine is close to our hearts, and we appreciate our guests' contribution to preserving it.

You can reach us by email at hello@pesaavailla.fi or through the contact form on our website. We typically respond within 24 hours. For urgent matters (e.g. during your stay), you can reach us by phone — the number is provided in your booking confirmation.
